Figure Skating – Men’s Singles

Two-time Olympian Johnny Weir began skating at the age of 12 after watching the 1994 Lillehammer Olympic Games. After discovering that he could perform an Axel after one week of skating lessons, he gave up equestrian and decided to pursue figure skating. In 2001, Weir defeated future 2010 gold medalist Evan Lysacek in the 2001 Junior World Championships.  In 2008 Weir was the only U.S. figure skater to medal at the World Championships, winning the bronze medal in the men’s division.

At the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, Weir finished sixth overall, earning his personal best combined score of 238.87. He recently announced that he will not be skating competitively for the 2010-11 season.
