Johnny Weir’s DWTS Journey Week by Week

++++++++

Season Twenty Nine of ABC’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ premiered on September 14, 2020 with fifteen new celebrities. Two time Olympian Johnny Weir was one of those celebrities, paired with first year pro Britt Stewart. They danced a Cha-Cha to ‘Buttons’, and received scores of 6/6/6 = 18.

There was no elimination Week One.

Week One Cha-Cha

~~~~
WEEK TWO on Tuesday September 22, 2020 Johnny and Britt danced a Tango to ‘Poker Face’, a song that Johnny skated to several years ago. Again they received scores of 6/6/6 = 18.
Week Six Salsa
Basketball legend Charles Oakley and pro Emma Slater were eliminated Week Two.
Week Two Tango
~~~~

September 28, 2020 was Disney Night on the show. Johnny and Britt danced a Rumba to ‘Reflection’ from ‘Mulan’. They received scores of 8/8/8 = 24.

Animal activist Carole Baskin and her partner Pasha were eliminated.

Disney Night Rumba

~~~~
WEEK FOUR took place on October 5, 2020. Johnny and Britt danced a Jive to ‘Crocodile Rock’. They received scores of 8/8/8 = 24.
This was a fun jive and a signal that Johnny was comfortable with what he was doing. I personally loved this dance.
Actress Anne Heche and her partner Keo Motsepe were eliminated.
Week Four Jive
~~~~

WEEK FIVE, also 80’s Night, took place on October 13, 2020. Johnny and Britt danced the first Contemporary dance of the season to ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ by Bonnie Tyler. They received scores of 10/10/9 (Bruno), for a total of 29 points.

This dance was beautiful, and darn Bruno with his nine!

The team eliminated this week was actor Jesse Metcalfe and his partner Sharna Burgess.

Week Five Contemporary

~~~~
WEEK SIX took place on October 19, 2020. Johnny and Britt danced a Salsa to ‘On the Floor’ by Jennifer Lopez. After the previous week’s high for Johnny and Britt, this week was somewhat of a low. They scored a total of 22 and ended up in the bottom two for the week. Two of the judges chose to save them, while one chose to save Vernon and Peta.
This wasn’t my favorite dance from them, and I didn’t care for Johnny’s costume, but it really was not that bad, in my opinion.
The team eliminated this week was former NFL player Vernon Davis and his partner Peta Murgatroyd.
Week Six Salsa
~~~~

WEEK SEVEN on October 26, 2020 was another theme night: Villains Night. The celebrities were cast as villains. Johnny and Britt danced a Viennese Waltz to ‘Creep’ with Johnny cast as a vampire. It was a strong comeback from the previous week with scores of 9/9/9 = 27.

This was brilliant, and Johnny was in character. The smoke was a little distracting, but it could easily have been a 30.

The team eliminated this week was cheer coach Monica Aldama and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy.

Villains Night Viennese Waltz

~~~~
Week Eight ‘Vote’ Opening
WEEK EIGHT on November 2, 2020 was scheduled to be a double elimination with each team dancing two dances. However, TV Host Jeannie Mai was rushed to the hospital prior to the show, and she and her partner Brandon Armstrong were forced to withdraw. Johnny and Britt danced a Foxtrot to ‘Wonder’ by Shawn Mendes. Their scores were 9/9/9 = 27.
The second dances were relays set up in groups of three. Johnny’s group had only two due to Jeannie Mai’s withdrawal: himself and actress Justina Machado and her partner Sasha Farber. Their relay was a Viennese Waltz judged by Derek Hough. Johnny and Britt were awarded three bonus points to make their total 30.
The team eliminated this week was actress/reality show star Chrishell Stause and her pro partner Gleb Savchenko.
Week Eight Foxtrot
Week Eight Viennese Waltz Dance Relay
~~~~

WEEK NINE was yet another theme night: Icons Night. Each celebrity was to choose an icon to dedicate their performance to. The teams were also expected to dance twice, except for ‘Catfishing’ host Nev Schulman and his partner Jenna Johnson who received a bye due to their season cumulative point total, but were awarded three bonus points.

Johnny and Britt danced a Quickstep to ‘Valerie’ by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson. Amy Winehouse was the icon. One judge remarked it was the best Quickstep they’d seen. They received scores of 10/10/10 = 30.

Their second dance was a Jive dance off to ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’ with Johnny and Britt against Backstreet Boy AJ McLean and his pro partner Cheryl Burke. AJ and Cheryl won the Dance Off.

Incredibly, even with a perfect score on their Quickstep, Johnny and Britt landed in the bottom two with AJ and Cheryl. Derek chose to save AJ and Cheryl, while Bruno and Carrie Ann chose to save Johnny and Britt. AJ and Cheryl were eliminated while Johnny and Britt moved on to the semi-finals.

Week Nine Quickstep
Week Nine Jive Dance Off

~~~~
Semi-Final Week Ten Opening Segment
WEEK TEN was also a double elimination as well as the Semi-Finals. The competition was down to six teams, with four moving on to the Finale. Each team was once again expected to dance two dances: one to a style they hadn’t performed to yet, the other a ‘redemption’ to a style they had struggled with during the season. The redemption dance would be chosen by one of the judges who would then assist the team in working on the dance.
Johnny and Britt’s mentor was Carrie Ann Inaba, and she chose the Salsa as their redemption dance. They danced a Salsa to ‘X’ by the Jonas Brothers Feauturing Karol G. They received scores of 9/9/9 = 27.
Their new style was a Jazz dance to ‘I Lived’ by One Republic. Derek Hough said he’d like to give it an 11. They received 10/10/10 = 30. I wrote about this in my previous blog ‘Johnny Weir’s DWTS Journey Ends With Semi-Final Appearance’. Johnny and Britt were the first team eliminated, and Skai and Alan were the second team eliminated.
Week Ten Jazz
Week Ten Redemption Salsa
This person has put all of Johnny and Britt’s dances together, one right after the other, judges scores included. This does not include the relay or the dance off.
@johnnygweir there are not enough words for what you have brought to my life these past 10 weeks. I am so honored that I was chosen to be on this journey with you and be by your side to show everyone all the things that make you so special. You were vulnerable, dedicated, and fiercely hard working during this entire process. Know that it paid off my friend. Your growth was astonishing!
You know that we wanted to go all the way, but that this experience for us was much more than a competition. It was a platform for us to entertain and bring joy, laughter, light to anyone watching. You accomplished that and so much more! YOU JOHNNY WEIR ARE AN INSPIRATION!!!!! You are an amazing person with the most beautiful soul and heart. You, your story, and all you’ve accomplished give people so much encouragement and hope!
I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am that I experienced my first season on @dancingabc with someone so special and that believes and celebrates in the same things that I do. I feel so incredibly blessed!! I truly believe that our partnership allowed people to see beyond gender, race, sexuality and see us and the work that we were doing in the most pure and organic way. Although our time on #DWTS is over, this journey for us is in no way over! We will continue to celebrate authenticity. We will continue to do everything we can to inspire. And we will continue to break boundaries where ever our paths together and individually take us.
Love you doodle 🤍
From Johnny to Britt
While on Facebook a little while ago I found this lovely tribute Johnny Weir wrote late Tuesday evening to his DWTS partner Britt Stewart.
Johnny Weir’s DWTS Journey Ends with Semi-Final Appearance
As anyone who watches the show no doubt knows by now, Johnny Weir and his partner Britt Stewart were one of the teams eliminated from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Monday evening 11/16/2020. Because the scores were so close for the couples we do have to assume it was the audience vote that made the difference. Whether we all agree the scores for all the couples were correct or not is another matter.
At this point the important thing is that Johnny Weir’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ journey has come to an end.
The show began with a segment that had the remaining celebrities calling fans to ask for their votes. It was fun to watch and a nice way to start the show. Nev’s expression when a fan he called said they were voting for Johnny was priceless.
After the opening segment each team danced a ‘redemption’ dance to a style they struggled with during the season. One of the three judges served as a mentor offering advice on improving from their previous performance of that style.  Johnny and Britt danced a Salsa to ‘X’ by the Jonas Brothers with assistance from Carrie Ann Inaba.
I thought their Salsa was beautiful and much better than their salsa number earlier in the season. They received a 9 from each of the judges, for a total score of 27.
I thought the judges were a little effusive with their praise of a couple of the celebrities during this part of the show, and they may have over scored a couple of them. It was like they were determined for everyone to score well. No one danced badly here, but some of them did not dance as well as their scores may have indicated.
Salsa to ‘X’ via ABC DWTS website
I think some of the scores went a little off the rails for a couple of the teams when they performed to their new style. However, there’s nothing I can do about that now. Johnny and Britt danced a beautiful Jazz number to ‘I Lived’ by the Jonas Brothers. In my opinion it was absolutely beautiful and worthy of the three tens it received from the judges. Derek said he wished he could give it an eleven.
Their 30 gave them a total of 57 between the two dances they danced.
When it came to the elimination, after naming the first three ‘definitely’ safe couples (Nelly, Nev, Kaitlyn), Johnny and Britt were named as the ‘lowest scoring team’ and basically dismissed. They left the floor immediately. I and many others were uncomfortable with how they seemed to be rushed off the floor.
The two couples left, Skai and Alan and Justina and Sasha, were then given a chance to be saved by the judges. Though Derek, Bruno and Carrie Ann gave Skai credit for improvement and not giving up, all three ultimately voted to save Justina.
I want to give some credit to Derek Hough at this point. Before he said who he was gong to save he made a point of saying something positive about Johnny and Britt. Seeing as how they were rushed off the stage so quickly it was much appreciated by me at least. It also seems as though he at least was surprised to see Johnny and Britt not make the final.
Johnny and Britt returned to the floor briefly to hug Skai and Alan. The finale will happen next week without them.
Elimination video via YouTube
Tuesday morning both eliminated teams Johnny and Britt and Skai and Alan appeared on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘Entertainment Tonight’ to talk about their elimination. Johnny and Britt were also interviewed by ‘US Weekly’ and ‘Extra TV’.
Johnny Weir’s Inspirational Message After ‘DWTS’ Loss
I know fans of a couple of the celebrities were not happy with Nelly’s scores or with him advancing to the final. He received tens for his jive in the semi final. In my opinion anyone else dancing at the level he danced would have been gifted if they even received an 8. It was not a bad performance; in fact Nelly probably danced better in that number than he has all season. However, it was not at a level with the dances of the other teams. I’m not sure what possessed the judges to award him three 10s other than the fact he had improved so much. Those tens (along with the audience vote) were likely the difference between Nelly making it to the final over Johnny and Britt or Skai and Alan.
However, I would like to point out that Nelly seems like a decent guy, and he did put some work into improving. The fact his large fan base has voted him through or that he received scores that may have seemed inflated a few times is not his fault. I know that some fans have gone after him, and he does not deserve that. Johnny Weir made a point of addressing that issue on Twitter, and kudos to him for doing so.
Support #TeamBrijo in DWTS Semifinals 11/16/2020
https://mobile.twitter.com/JohnnyGWeir/status/1328170402619613184
This is it Johnny Weir fans! Tonight is the semifinal round of ‘Dancing With the Stars’. There are six teams left, and Johnny and Britt are one of those teams. Each team will dance two dances: one to a style they have have not danced to before, and the other a ‘Redemption’ to a dance style the team struggled with during the season. Johnny and Britt will dance a Jazz number to ‘I Lived’ by one Republic. Their ‘redemption’ number will be a Salsa to ‘X’ by the Jonas Brothers.
Two teams will be eliminated this evening, and the four remaining teams will move on to the finals.
Johnny and Britt need our assistance to get to the finals. No matter how well they dance or what score they receive, the audience vote is a big factor. Last week #TeamBrijo received a perfect score of thirty out of thirty and still landed in the bottom two. There is no judges save this time: bottom two means elimination. That means it is up to us fans to get them through to the finals.
Please vote the maximum number of times (up to ten via text, up to ten via the website) to get Johnny and Britt through to the finals.
Vote #TeamBrijo into DWTS Final 11/16/2020
https://mobile.twitter.com/JohnnyGWeir/status/1327777450445606912
I found out Saturday afternoon that at least some fans of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ who live on the West Coast were not aware they were allowed to vote for the dance teams. Apparently they believed that since voting is over by the time they see the show that they could not vote.
Let me reiterate:
How the audience votes on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ was updated after Season 27. Audience members can now only vote during the original live broadcast, which begins at 8 pm EST/7 pm CST. This means starting at 6 pm MST, 5 pm PST, 4 pm Alaska time, 3 pm Hawaii time fans in the United States can vote for their favorite dance team. West of the CST we are voting before we see the dances, but this is how things are currently set up on the show.
This is how fans can vote:
Johnny Weir Faces Double Elimination in DWTS Semifinal – 11/16/2020
I found out this morning next Monday’s (11/16/2020) semifinal episode of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ will be a DOUBLE ELIMINATION. This means two dance teams will be eliminated with four moving on to the final the following week.
On Monday the six remaining couples will dance two full dances: one will be to a style they haven’t previously danced to and the other will be a ‘redemption’. The redemption dance will be to a style they struggled with previously on the show. In Johnny Weir’s case this means his new style will be a Jazz number to ‘I Lived’ by One Republic, and his redemption style will be a Salsa to ‘X’ by the Jonas Brothers.
Johnny and Britt are really going to need our votes next Monday. I believe they are worthy of being among the final four teams who will dance in the finals the following week on 11/23/2020; however, no matter how well they dance they MUST have the audience vote to move on to the finals. Johnny and Britt had a perfect score last week and still landed in the bottom two. We can not let them miss the finals because someone else has more Twitter followers or something.
Let’s do this for them.
Let’s do this for Johnny.
I think Johnny is one of the better dancers, and that he and Britt deserve it. I think a lot of Johnny Weir fans can identify with him not getting the placement a lot of people think he deserves.
Remember, we can only vote during the original live broadcast which begins at 8 pm EST/7 pm CST. You may vote up to TEN TIMES per voting method. For example: ten votes via each cell phone, and ten votes via the website.
Johnny Weir in DWTS Semifinals
Hello Johnny Weir fans.
As I stated in a previous post Johnny Weir on Dancing With the Stars, I have not been blogging Johnny’s appearances on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ because of my lack of computer access. Basically I have only my phone to post, and it limits my ability to write even when I am inspired to do so. I can only remember basic HTML, and I’m not sure how to upload photos or tag my posts.
Yesterday was Week Nine of the current season of ‘Dancing With the Stars’. Johnny and his professional dance partner Britt Stewart danced a quick step to ‘Valerie’ by Amy Winehouse. They received a score of thirty out of thirty, their first perfect score of the season. They did receive a 29 out of 30 for their contemporary dance in Week Five of the competition.
There was also a dance off against AJ McClean and Cheryl Burke later in the show. AJ and Cheryl won the dance off and gained bonus points for the win.
When it came time for the elimination Johnny and Britt and Aj and Cheryl were the bottom two teams and were up for elimination. Bruno and Carrie Ann voted to save Johnny and Britt, while Derek voted to save AJ and Cheryl. Because of the save by the judges, Johnny and Britt will continue in the competition for at least one more week.
It is really difficult to understand how a team that received a perfect score on their dance could possibly be in the bottom two, even when the competition was down to seven teams. However, it happened.
I’m not going to bash the decision by the show’s producers to change how the audience vote is handled and calculated; however it seems obvious that those changes have had the opposite effect of what was intended. With a good portion of the United States forced to vote for a dance team without seeing the dances or not vote at all, fairness seems to be removed from the equation.
I’m also not going to bash any celebrity that seems to be getting through due to a larger overall fan base or more followers on Twitter, etc. But that also seems to be happening this season.
What I want to say at this point is reiterate that Johnny Weir and his partner Britt Stewart need our support. They can win this thing, but no matter what scores the judges give them or how well they dance, they CAN NOT WIN UNLESS WE HELP THEM WIN! They need the audience vote, and that means us, people!
There are only two shows left at this point. The competition is down to six teams and Johnny Weir and Britt are one of those teams.
Monday November 16, 2020 is the next episode of the show, and Johnny Weir really needs our support. Each fan can vote ten times per voting method. You can vote at the  ‘Dancing With the Stars‘ website, or via text message by texting Johnny to 21523. If you know people who are fans of the show but are not voting, or people who are fans of Johnny Weir but are not voting, please encourage them to support Johnny and Britt. If you know anyone who might want to help support Johnny Weir on the show, please encourage them to do so. Dances and full episodes of the show may be viewed at the ABC website, on the HULU streaming service, and via the official DWTS channel at YouTube.
Remember you can only vote while the show is being broadcast live in the Eastern and Central time zones. The show begins at 8 EST/7 CST. Voting ends during the last commercial break.
Johnny and Britt in rehearsal.
Will you advocate for an Internet that respects creators?
From Creative America:
As you know, the problem of content theft involves a complex system of players that includes advertisers, advertising networks, payment processors, search engines, universities and others who, one way or another, are part of an online ecosystem that allows criminals to profit off others’ creative works.
This week, in a positive development, the content community and internet service providers (ISPs) officially launched the Copyright Alerts System, a collaborative effort to educate consumers about the importance of copyright protection and help them find better ways to enjoy digital content.
Call on CEOs to stop supporting advertising on illegal content websites now!
In addition, in recent weeks, more and more voices — the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab, bloggers like Vox Indie, Music Tech Policy, and The Trichordist to name a few — are shining a light on the ongoing problem of advertising networks funneling revenue to illegal, content-infringing websites.
The Copyright Alliance, an ally in protecting creators online, has launched a petition calling on CEOs of major corporations to stop tacitly supporting pirate sites by advertising on the networks that pay these websites.
Will you sign the Copyright Alliance’s petition asking advertisers to stop advertising on pirate sites?
Together, we can advocate for an Internet that works for everyone, including creators and makers who deserve to be protected from online theft.
Thanks,
Tim
Copyright Advocates
Stop advertising on pirate sites
“The rise of ad-supported pirate networks is a relatively new phenomena stemming from the birth of large peer to peer (P2P) Internet sites in 2001. In the last five years a huge number of new ad networks have sprung up to service the seemingly infinite ad inventory of the broadband era. Much of that inventory sits on the more than 150,000 pirate entertainment sites.” USC Annenberg Ad Transparency Report, February 14, 2013.
Sign this letter to the CEOs of brands that appear on multiple occasions on infringing sites. Ask them to take a pledge to keep their ads off of illegal sites. Keep in mind that this list is not a comprehensive list of brands that appear on pirate sites.
An Open Letter to the CEOs of Brands Advertising on Infringing Sites:
We, the undersigned, are just a few of the millions of artists and creators living, working, and creating across the United States. It has come to our attention that your companies are advertising on websites that illegally host or distribute creative content. We want to make you aware of the harm your companies do to independent artists and small businesses when you advertise on these sites.
Advertising on these sites encourages others to exploit our work for economic gain without a return to us. It deprives us of the opportunity to build communities with fans when they visit illegal sites to obtain our work, rather than our sites. It also gives consumers a false sense of security by lending an air of legitimacy to these sites. And, it rewards activities that are illegal.
Advertising on these sites also damages your own brands by association.
We understand that it can be difficult to know where your companies’ ads might end up because of the complexity of online advertising. However, difficult does not mean impossible. It appears that other companies make ad buys in ways that don’t result in their brands being tarnished and our work being exploited.
We ask you to encourage your companies to do the same.
You are in the best position to employ high-quality control standards and to demand the same from the ad networks you use. We encourage your companies to uphold high ethical standards for advertising placement, just as you do in other areas of business.
Please ask your online advertising purchasers to adopt practices like those detailed in the Statement of Best Practices to Address Online Piracy and Counterfeiting, released last year by the Association of National Advertisers, the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s), and the Interactive Advertising Bureau. The practices outlined here, if adopted by major companies like yours, would go a long way towards ensuring a free and fair online marketplace for artists and creators to thrive. A report released by the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Innovation Lab on February 14, 2013, under the direction of Jonathan Taplin, has identified the top ten Ad Networks placing ads on infringing sites. And, according to research and documentation by artists working in tandem with this project, your companies have been identified as brands that repeatedly advertise on infringing websites.
Now that this issue has been brought to your attention, we hope that you will take affirmative steps to address this problem.
We ask you to start by signing the following pledge here, which is also written below:
“I support the rights of artists, creators and innovators to be compensated for the fruits of their labor. I run my business ethically, and value my brand.  I pledge not to advertise on sites which illegally exploit the work of creators without their permission.”
Outsource Me…
I am reposting this here, because it is considered a ‘Personal Blog’ and is not appropriate for my topic at Examiner.com.  I understand that, and I should have thought of that before posting it there.
Thank you for reading and feel free to comment!
++++
I have been writing for Examiner.com since September 2010. Even though I applied for two other topics at the time as this one, my topic is Mesa Unemployment Benefits Examiner. I picked that as one of my choices because I was unemployed at the time (and still am), and it is a topic I can safely say I know something about. However, the topic turned out to be more limiting than I thought it would be. Even though the unemployment situation here locally and also nationally in the United States has gotten a great deal of attention, I am a local Examiner, and my content is supposed to be localized. Not only that, there are only so many ways and so many times you can tell your readers how to apply for benefits, and where to apply and so forth. Therefore I have also written articles about local job fairs and specific company hiring events; and have started reporting statistics weekly on the unemployment rate as they are released by the U.S. Department of Labor.
I have not written anything on my personal situation, and in fact I have made an effort to NOT bring my personal situation into the articles I have been writing. With my personal situation coloring so much of my daily life sometimes it is difficult to be impersonal about what I write. Because of that I have decided to start today with a description of how I came to be where I am now.
A little over two years ago I was laid off from my job at a major financial institution in Phoenix, Arizona. My job was to assist customers via email and telephone contact with questions about their credit card payments and other issues related to credit cards and online banking. After a rough few years during which I had been laid off a couple of times and lost a job I had worked at for over ten years, I felt with this position as if I were making some progress again. The job paid fairly well and the benefits were the best I had ever had on any job. I felt as though the company was secure and so was my position. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
One of the frustrations we had on the job in my position was that we frequently had to transfer customers to other associates when their issues were really not that difficult to solve. We simply did not have the proper access to assist them. Then one day not too long before I was laid off we were told things would be changing; departments would be consolidating and the responsibilities and access would be similar across several departments. Therefore we would have to transfer customers less often and would be able to deal with more issues ourselves. The company began to set up training classes so associates could learn new programs on the computer system, and associates began picking what sessions would be best for them. My team, which had gone through training together and onto the floor as a unit, would also be split up amongst several other teams.
Then we were hit with another announcement: the overnight shift would be shutting down and the associates working on that shift would have to be absorbed into the rest of the department.
What was behind this announcement? Outsourcing. Our call center was not a twenty four hour operation; it actually shut down at 8p.m. local time. However, there was an overnight shift that focused solely on answering email. During the day when we were not as busy on the phones, or there was a heavy volume of email we also answered some, but email was the only focus of the night shift. The company had now decided to ship the email department to Guadalajara, Mexico. Everyone, including the night shift now had to fill out shift bids. Since I was new I believed I was likely to be stuck with whatever no one else wanted; however I was pleasantly surprised to find I was able to keep the shift I was already working even after absorbing the night shift. Therefore I thought everything was going to be okay. Unfortunately I was wrong.
One day I was called into a conference room with my team manager and his supervisor and told I was to be laid off. They did not call it a lay off, but that is of course what it really was. My team was the newest team, so of course we were the first target.
I am still not sure how many people from my team were actually laid off, thought I know it was at least four. I also do not know if there were people laid off from other departments, or from other teams. What I do know is that my plans and my life were once again in turmoil, and it was and is, a direct result of outsourcing. Outsourcing can and does affect people; it can and does hurt people. When a worker loses a job to outsourcing it is through no fault of their own, and beyond their control.  And it is often something that is depressing and extremely difficult to bounce back from.
